>Scraping the Sky
>

Today, I cut out a piece of velvet-like fabric. This is going to be the red carpet, like the one that all the famous actresses step onto at the Academy Awards. Then, I did a rough sketch onto my canvas. I re-sized a panoramic photo of a city skyline and printed it out. Next, I traced over a piece of carbon paper so that the image transferred onto my canvas.
This faint skyline is the city of Atlanta, Georgia. These sheepdogs lived in a small town on the outskirts of the city. I've never been to Atlanta. It looks like a beautiful city... a city that happens to have quite a few skyscrapers. I believe the tall one in the center (that comes to a point at the top) is the Bank of America Plaza. It is 1,023 ft. tall. Today, it ranks 24th on the List of Tallest Buildings in the World. There are many other tall buildings in Atlanta, as well...
Coincidentally, it was on this day just 5 years ago that two of New York City's tallest skyscrapers collapsed. The Twin Towers were destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001 after 2 hijacked planes struck each of the buildings in a terrorist attack. Construction has already begun on the site of the old World Trade Center. It is projected that by the year 2010, a new Freedom Tower will stand where the old towers were, emitting a bright light up towards the heavens... We may be able to replace the buildings, but we will never be able to replace the lives lost on that day.
