>Heavy Metal Bumper
>
When I started working on the bumper of my dad's Datsun a couple of nights ago, it occurred to me that I really didn't know what type of beads to use for it, so I improvised. I used more of the coils that I used for the grill, as well as some silver capsule beads that I've had kickin' around for awhile. The issue I had with this was that the capsules' bead holes were so small that not even my #12 beading needle would fit through them. So, I had to string them onto 34 gauge wire, and then stitch the wire down with thread, so the beads laid flat...I'm not completely sure that I like how how this beadwork looks, but I'll tell ya, it sure sparkles when you hold it up to the light - just like chrome. So, for now, I'm going to keep it the way it is. I'll go back to it later, and layer on more beads.
What do you think??
The title of this post was inspired by the metal band that I was listening to while beading: Opeth. If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you'll know that I have very diverse musical tastes. I happened to have the opportunity to work an Opeth show (as part of Gigantour) a couple of weeks ago, and their set was very intense. Their music has incredible dynamics, and their recordings are very well-produced. I still need to get a couple of their discs, but I do have a number of their tracks on my mp3 player. If you check out their myspace page, listen to 'Closure' first. That's my favorite track.
This post is dedicated to Nina. She was thoughtful enough to send me a very cute German birthday e-card yesterday, which really put a smile on my face:) She makes the most beautiful French-beaded flowers, and she was also the one who told me about Opeth. Nina and I have a lot in common, including our favorite band, Porcupine Tree. Someday, I hope to make a trip to Germany to meet her:)
