>Gray Hound Park
>

Thank you to all who responded to my last post... Jen mentioned that she owns 2 rescued greyhounds. Coincidentally, there was a greyhound riding home on the T last nite. She was a beautiful dog, too. I've never owned a greyhound, but I hear that they are quite gentle.
That brings me to a hot-button issue here in Massachusetts: greyhound racing. In the 2000 Election, Massachusetts had to make the difficult choice between banning the sport or keeping it alive. We have 2 dog tracks in this state: Wonderland Greyhound Park (Revere, MA) and Raynham-Taunton Greyhound Park (Raynham, MA). Before moving to Quincy, I lived in Raynham for 8 years and I remember when this issue was on the ballot. There were signs everywhere urging residents to "VOTE NO ON QUESTION 3". If enough people voted YES, the parks would have closed and approx. 600 people would have lost their jobs....
51% voted NO.
In July 2006, the state's highest court ruled against a ballot initiative that would have let voters decide whether or not to phase out greyhound racing altogether by the year 2008.
So, greyhound racing stays...
If you live in Massachusetts, and are interested in adopting a greyhound, both Raynham and Wonderland have adoption programs. Lincoln Park (Lincoln, RI) has an adoption program, as well. If you live outside New England, you can find other adoption agencies HERE. Please consider this option, and give one of these dogs a loving home:)
