>A Tiara for Bailey
As you may recall, in a previous post entitled The Truth About Bailey, I quoted an email sent to me from Bailey's owner, Gigi. She mentioned that Bailey had a tiara. So, I took it upon myself to create a beaded one using antique French steel cut beads.
Steel cut beads were cut with many facets. I did some research, and learned that cut steel was widely used in jewelry & accessories during the late 18th century, including shoe buckles, buttons, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, hair ornaments, and handbags. This type of metal is often mistaken for Marcasite.
Bailey's tiny tiara was made using a simple netting technique. This technique can be traced back as far as 660 B.C. If you're interested in learning the basics of this technique, I suggest reading Netted Beadwork by Diane Fitzgerald:)
