A Firefighter's Prayer
When I am called to duty, God
Whenever flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever be its age,
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate
Enable me to be alert and
Hear the weakest shout
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out
I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor and
Protect his property
And if according to my fate
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with your
protecting hand
My children and my wife.

Above is a sketch of what will hopefully be my next 3-D bead-embroidered piece - a vintage 1943 Chevy fire truck. I searched high and low for the perfect one to re-create using beads, and it turns out that the Black Canyon Fire Department, in Black Canyon City, AZ owns it. This truck was the department's first fire truck. It was originally purchased in 1969. The truck was then donated back to the fire department in 1999 for their 30-year anniversary of fire service. Today, the truck stands as a monument; a reminder of those who served almost 40 years ago.
After finding the image, I re-sized it, printed it out, then traced over it. The drawing measures 6.5" x 12.5" wide (approx. 16 x 32cm). This will be the largest piece of beadwork I have ever attempted, and I want it to be more realistic than ever before. I also plan to include at least one Dalmatian in this somehow, although I don't have a drawing yet. And, I can envision how I want the piece to look, but right now, I have no clue how I'm going to achieve it... I'm sure it will be another adventure. I hope you join me for the ride=:0
Also, I would love to get some kids involved in this project somehow. Kids love fire trucks, and I love child art. If your child has done any artwork having to do with fire trucks, fire apparatus, firemen in burning buildings, anything regarding fire prevention, or even Dalmatians, please send me a photo (along with your child's first name & age), and I'll post it! I think that encouraging children to create art and use their imaginations is a wonderful thing=:)
